My EOFY sale
It's an offer not to be discounted, so to speak
So many new words and acronyms I learned when I moved to Australia, words like ‘rort’, ‘drongo’ ‘esky’ and ‘hoon’, my favourite of them all being ‘furphy’ to connote a tall tale.
Plus of course there is the Australian habit of shortening everything: ‘servo’ for service station’, ‘firie’ for fire-fighters, ‘chippie’ for carpenters and ‘tradie’ for tradesperson. ‘Twas this great nation that gave the world the word ‘selfie’
Australians don’t have many distinctive acronyms I can think of except one, which is to be seen everywhere in Australia in the months of May and June, which is EOFY (End of Financial Year) and often accompanied by the word ‘sale’ after it.
The Australian tax year runs July 1-June 30 but this is not just a set of dates of interest to accountants. Australians take the EOFY more seriously than any other country I’ve ever lived - there isn’t a shop, store or service that doesn’t seem to offer some sort of sale or discount. And so, I thought I’d offer my own iteration, ahem thinly veiled appeal for more paid subscribers.
With this link please find a means to obtain a 20% discount for monthly and annual subscribers. This offer is good until 23:59 on June 30, when we Australians bade farewell to the old financial year.
